Signed by Internazionale along with Rene Krhin at age of 16,[2] Belec spent 3½ seasons with F.C. Internazionale Milano Primavera team. In the first season he was a backup for Paolo Tornaghi and won the Primavera Scudetto that season.[3] He also played for Allievi Nazionali under-17 youth team in 2006–07 season.[4] In 2007–08 season, at first he had to compete with Enrico Alfonso for the starting place in Primavera team until Alfonso left the club in January 2008. He then became the fourth keeper of Inter first team[5] (except in UEFA Champions League, which eligible to B list since January 2009) and as the first choice in Primavera, which won 2008 Torneo di Viareggio with team[6] and finished as the league runner-up.[7] Under José Mourinho, Belec received several first team call-up since 2008–09 season and made his first team debut on 17 July 2009, a pre-season friendly.[8] He also played at World Football Challenge.[9][10]
In November 2009, he signed a reported 5-year contract.[11]
On 6 July 2010, Belec completed a loan to Serie B club Crotone.[12] He made his debut on 5 September 2010 after Emanuele Concetti was not available. He then became the first choice goalkeeper ahead of Concetti since round 18.
However, in 2011–12 Serie B, his former Inter "team-mate" Giacomo Bindi (practically never met in the same team as Bindi left on loan for years), took the starting place from round 2 to 4 and again since round 9, made Belec becoming the understudy
Belec received a call-up to 2009 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship elite qualification,[13] but not played. He was the first choice in 2009 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship qualification.
Belec received a call-up to Slovenia national under-21 football team in September 2010, which he was the backup of Jan Koprivec.[14] On 1 October, he received another call-up against Hungary, which the team was composed with players that eligible to 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship (born 1990 or after).[15] However he did not play that match.[16] Belec was dropped from the squad in November 2010.[17] He also never played in 2013 U-21 Euro qualification. Instead, the coach gave the chance to youngster Jan Oblak and two other born 1990 players on the bench.
He received a call-up from the senior team in February 2011, after the injury of Samir Handanović, for a friendly match against Albania in February 2011.
He won another call-up from the senior team in March,[18] August,[19] October[20] and again in November.[21] He was the third keeper behind Handanović family, succeed Koprivec.
